COPING WITH CYBER AGE By: Love Enteria
Global competitiveness! This is what everybody is concerned about in this fast changing world. There never should be a rest to learning new technology which at every split of a second finds transformation. If we do, a gap will exist leading to a difficulty to muddle through the evolution of the century.
ZAMSURECO II makes itself compatible with time. It tries not to be left behind with computer upgrading. Our electric cooperative is in fact presently equipped with an internet connection, a website, an e-mail address, and two Short Messaging Systems (SMS): the Launchpad and the Mobile Power Assistant. We have a computerized billing and every department is now facilitated by computers.
Onwards, ZAMSURECO II is now initiating to apply computer automation in its system by linking all the data processed in all its departments, sub-offices and field offices. Your cooperative is now in the process of making all pertinent data available by just a click and all reports generated in just a second. Soon, even your electric bill payments can be made in any of its collection centers with immediate updating.
Part of our preparation is making everyone in the office computer literate. Recently, a programming seminar on Visual Basic. Net and Microsoft Sequel Server was conducted for the coop’s Information Technology professionals; while another training for Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point was given to all division heads including department heads who are yet not computer literate. Some members of the Board of Directors and the General Manager himself participated in the learning.
Mr. Eduard Daling, the Systems Administrator of Southern Leyte Electric Cooperative (SOLECO) and Mr. Catalino Antonio Mercado, an Information Technology professional of the National Electrification Administration (NEA) were the trainors ZAMSURECO II invited for that 3-day seminar. ITs of the Region IX electric cooperatives were also invited to participate making the Region IX Electric Cooperatives Association (RENECA) the sponsor. Initiated by Jaime Lagare, ZAMSURECO II’s System Administrator, the conduct of said training on November 13-15, 2006, was a resounding success.
